Hello Sophisticated Spenders!

The following blog post is part of The Road to Financial Wellness blog tour. The Road to Financial Wellness is a three-month, grassroots campaign promoting financial empowerment on a national level and encourages people to pursue their dream lifestyle. Find out more about local events near you.

I had the pleasure of attending the Capital Pit stop and had an amazing time!

Jason Vitug from phroogal worked really hard on The Road to Financial Wellness and it really showed!

Here are a few of my takeaways:

Jason’s Gems-

“It’s not about the VALUE of a dollar but the POWER of the dollar!” ~Jason Vitug

Their crew is on a 15,000 mile road trip!

We learn all of the wrong things in college.  When it comes to finances, we actually learn from each other (and it’s usually after things have gone wrong).  For example, “I’m going through a bankruptcy (or divorce), Which lawyer did you use?

We also learn from non-verbal cues.  For example, the cars we drive, the clothes we wear and vacations we take.

He wrote the book You Only Live Once: the Roadmap to Financial Wellness and a Purposeful Life.

Ask your self, “What MY relationship with money?”

What is Financial Wellness? It’s different for everyone.  You have to ask yourself What are your goals? What kind of life do you want to live? What do you value (travel or having a huge house?  You need to plan the details!

The event was co-sponsored by Berknell Financial Group and the Co-Founder & CEO Dasarte Yarnway also captivated me.

Dasarte’s Gems-

He wrote a book titled Dating Benji: Straight Talk On Improving Your Relationship With Money

Nobody wants to work forever.  Do you have a strategic retirement plan?

You need 85% of your annual salary PER YEAR saved in retirement. (He also informed us that most people over the age of 50 have less than $50k saved in retirement.)

He also spoke about the digital age and how it’s ruining your life.  People choose to look at text and cell phone screens instead of each other!

Their firm has a focus:

“Advice with you in mind.”

He treats each client like a patient.  When you go to the doctor you tell them everything that is wrong so that you can get the correct prescription.  It should be the same with your financial advisor.

As you can see in the photo above, there were more speakers and I encourage you to catch the next stop when the tour is in your area!  There will be a new panel of speakers, a new energy and most of all…YOU!

And I’d love for you to share in the comments What Financial Wellness Means to YOU!
