Income Tax Refund Scam

Hello Sophisticated Spenders!

Because I love my readers…

Don’t fall for the latest scam.

It’s tax season. The IRS is accepting tax returns and the most overused phrase of this season is:

“Can I borrow some money, and I’ll pay you back when I get my refund?”

Do NOT fall for this scam. Lol

I know, the people who are bold enough to try this line are usually good friends or family members. Chances are, you’ve been dumb kind enough to loan them some money before. This time you will actually be getting your money back because they are promising you a chunk of their huge tax refund.

Here are a few rebuttal lines for you to use on said beggars:

1:  ”Whaaaat??? They are gonna take back your car.  Maybe the bank is right and you can’t afford that car after all.  You should just give it back to them.

2:  You know, I got bills too!  I have a mortgage to pay, (talk about every single bill that you have) they will all of a sudden get another call and have to “call you back later.”

3:  Have you paid back the money you borrowed from me last month???

4:  I don’t want money to get in the way of our relationship. I have a rule to not loan money to really close family and friends. You’re welcome!

5:  ”I got another call, let me call you back” (repeat till they stop asking).

Bonus: Just say no or I can’t! And you don’t have to give a reason!

Bonus:  Say you need to discuss all loans with your magic 8 ball and its never let you down. It has a 100% success rate. And say looks like it just said no.

Do you guys have an tips for telling people that you would NOT like to loan them any money “until they get their refund?”
